Japan Bouldering Guide introduces Japanese bouldering culture and Japanese crags to English-speaking climbers. Japan has world-class granite and river boulders, but almost all of the practical information — topos, parking rules, seasons, local etiquette — exists only in Japanese. This site translates that world: where to climb, how to get there without a car, what the local rules are, and how to behave so that the crags stay open.
Everything is written by climbers who have spent seasons at these areas, and it is reviewed against local sources — municipal parking data, area guidelines and conversations with local climbers — before it is published.
Visiting climbers planning a trip to Japan, and English-speaking climbers already living in Japan who cannot yet read Japanese guidebooks. No Japanese language ability is assumed anywhere on this site.
The guides on this site are supported by affiliate links to travel services climbers use anyway (rail passes, eSIMs, rental cars, insurance and gear), by paid downloadable guide packs, and by reader donations. This site participates in affiliate programs and may earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through links on this site, at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are never sold: a service appears here only if we would use it ourselves.
